Feature Artist: Hudson Rose

I grew up listening to a variety of music and received my first guitar, a mini Maton, for Christmas 2016. Three weeks later, in January 2017, I set off for my first Tamworth Country Music Festival. The Tamworth Country Music Festival along with a trip to see my idol Keith Urban had me hooked. I knew what I wanted to do - create music, sing on stage and share it with as many people as possible.

I’ve just released a new song called ‘Rules of Breaking Up’. This song is from an experience of love, heartbreak, and trying to work out how to move on. It has been created with a catchy melody to hopefully have you singing on repeat in the shower, car or wherever you are. I’ve tried to blend the country elements I love with a little contemporary twist, to create something that’s easy to and based around some of the unspoken guidelines of navigating life after a breakup. The song came about after getting dumped in my driveway one New Year’s Eve and the heartbreak I felt. I had so many questions. What are the dos and don’ts after a breakup? What can and can’t you do? If I had been handed a textbook that day, I would’ve studied it harder than anything else.

Coming from Wingham, a small regional town in NSW, I like to show off the area I live and work in what I am doing. And as my favourite part of releasing a single is the music video, I film them in and around my local area. The music video gives me the opportunity to show part of the story as I see it, taking people on a journey, and have some fun in the process. The Rules of Breaking Up video was particularly fun as not only was it filmed in my hometown, but it was also filmed at my old High School and on my 21st birthday. Going back to my old school was a little scary, but with a group of friends, and the film crew, we created a crazy classroom scene to learn the ‘rules’ of breaking up. It was a jam-packed day with lots of filming, laughs, old cars and birthday cake.

I’d love for you to check out this track on your favourite streaming platform and send me a message to let me know what you think (or you could let me know your rules of breaking up or send me through your breakup story).
